Jayne Wilkinson

Diploma in Hospitality in 12/13

Jayne Wilkinson


Jayne Wilkinson scored a work placement for celebrity chef Raymond Blanc.


During the summer Jayne is set to do work experience with Raymond Blanc at his flagship two Michelin-starred eatery, Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saisons, after sending a plucky letter asking him for a big break.


Budding pastry chef, Jayne, 17, said: "I wanted to learn more about French cuisine and see the new techniques they're using in industry and thought there's nowhere better to see that than at Le Manoir. I wrote them a letter asking for work experience, not really thinking anything would come of it, so I couldn't believe it when his people got back to me."


 

 

Harriet Da Costa

Diploma in Professional Cookery in 12/13

NVQ Level 3 Hospitality Supervision and Leadership in 10/11

Michael Collier


Michael successfully completed his studies and has secured a job as a Trainee Manager for Compass, the largest catering organisation in the world.

To start with Michael will be working locally in a supervisory role in the restaurant of one of the high street department stores. Naturally he hopes to move to other areas of Compass and fulfil his other ambition of seeing other parts of the world.

 

 

Danielle Betteridge

Diploma in Childcare and Education in 12/13

Danielle worked tirelessly not just in her studies but also as the Disability Awareness Officer on our student council.


She has fulfilled her dream of progressing to the prestigious Norland College in Bath to study a 3-year degree in early years development and nannying.

BTEC National Diploma in IT in 10/11

Abdulaziz Dahir Mahamed


Abdulaziz achieved the Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in IT (networking pathway) with triple distinctions.


He successfully progressed to Bournemouth University to study a degree in Software Engineering and is now able to fulfil his ambition of designing software solutions.

He has now successfully progressed to a Level 5 Higher Apprenticeship in Professional Construction with his employer, WSP Group Plc. Higher Apprenticeships are the equivalent of university-level study.

Counselling & Psychotherapy Training in 12/13

"I left City College with a BA honours degree and qualifications in clinical supervision, person-centred group work and teaching.


I am now practicing as a BACP accredited counsellor, as well as a supervisor and group facilitator in NHS primary care, a role that I find enormously satisfying and which I could not have aspired to or achieved without the excellent experience, professional grounding and support that I received from the counselling and psychotherapy training team at City College."

Andrew studied AS Maths alongside the BTEC Level 3 in Engineering and was offered a highly sought-after place at the University of Southampton as well as a Level 5 Higher Apprenticeship with the MOD.


Andrew said, "I really enjoyed the wide range of subjects covered on the course and found the tutors extremely helpful. I decided to opt for the apprenticeship route to further improve my career opportunities and so that I could start earning a living."

"It's been brilliant studying at City College and I've really gained in confidence, knowledge and experience. The teachers are really nice and I have done six different work placements at places like schools, nurseries, care homes and hospitals. It means I have had a chance to look at many different career options.


I've been accepted to study a Degree in Child Health Nursing at the University of Southampton. I was one of 2,000 students who applied for just 65 places so I'm really happy ... now I'm a step closer to my goal of becoming a paediatric nurse."
